February 8 – Australian Open Begins
Time for some tennis down unda. This tournament’s the first Grand Slam event of the year. Last year, Novak Djokovic won on the men’s side and Sofia Kenin took home the W on the women’s side.
February 11 – International Day of Women and Girls in Science
This United Nations official holiday is a great one. “At present, less than 30 per cent of researchers worldwide are women. According to UNESCO data (2014 – 2016), only around 30 per cent of all female students select STEM-related fields in higher education.” Let’s get to work changing that.
February 12 – Chinese New Year!
Fun fact: Chinese New Year is commonly referred to as the Spring Festival.
February 14 – Valentine’s Day
Ahh, Valentine’s in the time of COVID. But as they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.
February 18 – NASA’s Perseverance will land on Mars
The six-wheeled Mars car is tasked with prowling the crater – believed to be the site of a Martian lake billions of years ago – to search for signs of ancient microbial life, collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust), and pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet.
February 19 BlizzCon Online 2021
February 20 Boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul
While it’s bound to be a trainwreck, it’s undeniable that the internet will be talking about it should it proceed on the 20th.
